External SSD not showing up on MacBook M1 Pro

    Hello

    I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue

    When I plug an external SSD into my MacBook Pro M1, it doesn't show up and when I open disk utility it just hangs there with a loading circle spinning

    Has anyone else had this?

    I originally thought it was my SSD failing, but now after having gotten another SSD, I'm thinking maybe it isn't.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Have you replaced the cable, does it have the right specs?
    Do you use an enclosure - perhaps it's faulty.
    Tried it on another computer? What diskformat is the SSD in?
